Feb 8, 2017 at 14:31 comment added Kevin_Kinsey Well, you don't have to melt it all, just enough to get it to turn loose. That said, if the ice is very thick, it would be better to work from the inside out.
Feb 8, 2017 at 9:50 comment added Hobbes It takes a LOT of energy to melt ice, so this is not an efficient method. Better to put an electric space heater inside the car. That'll still take a while, but at least it'll melt the ice from the inside out, meaning once the ice has started to melt it won't adhere to the windshield and be easy to scrape off.
